The handicap is a positive or negative value applied to a team or participant at the end of a specified period. Bets of this type predict which team or participant will win the market once the handicap has been applied.
For example:
Event | Handicap | Result | Result after handicap applied |
---|---|---|---|
Burnley vs Wolves | Burnley -2 | Burnley 4-1 Wolves | Burnley 2-1 Wolves (Bet on Burnley to win wins) |
Chelsea vs Liverpool | Liverpool +1 | Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool |
Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool |
Handicap markets
There are two types of handicap markets — two-way handicaps and three-way handicaps.
The main difference is the three-way handicap market gives the option to predict whether an event will end in a draw once the handicap has been applied.
A bet placed on a two-way handicap market can be settled as a push if the game ends as a draw once a handicap has been applied.
